Manchester United identify Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Edinson Cavani as January targets

Image
mentioned in greater detail on the site, the  Guardian  carries a story about Ander Herrera denying the rumours that he wants to leave United. That's good news for us, but miserable news for his career. Save yourself, Ander! The  Daily Mail  has handily discovered that the stats show that Wayne Rooney is five times less the goalscoring player he was in 11/12. We all know that, but it's nice to see the wall of persuasion get higher, as only fools keep defending his inclusion. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Edinson Cavani are the latest strikers linked to Louis van Gaal's Manchester United. Hope for their sake that their agents make the case for them to stay away. Both of them would be better than Rooney, obviously, but that seems be a description of most human beings and a fair amount of sandwich fillings. That's in the  Mirror . And linked to the idea that players should be kept away from Van Gaal for the good of their careers, the  Manchester Evening News  has

Lionel Messi, Pep Guardiola Transfer Rumours Increased by Manchester City Deal

Image
Manchester City will promise Pep Guardiola an unprecedented war-chest of money to spend on new players if he joins the Sky Blues next season, affording him the chance to tempt  Lionel Messi  to the Premier League. David Anderson  of the  Mirror  reported  owner Sheikh Mansour's sale of 13 per cent of the club's  parent company, City Football Group, to Chinese investors "will go towards players." The £265 million generated by the surprise deal will be ring-fenced to invest back into the squad, allowing Guardiola to bid for Messi if he arrives from Bayern Munich. City have already recorded their revenue for this year, and this is expected to inflate next year when the Premier League's latest TV deal kicks in, per Anderson.  A spokesman for the Sky Blues reassured fans the owner has no intention of ending his association with the club, despite selling a stake in the business, as quoted by the  Manchester Evening News'   James Robson  (h/t the  Mirr

Pregnant Kim Kardashian Silences Fat Shamers With One Word

Image
With #NoShameParenting, Yahoo Parenting takes the pressure off by featuring families around the country who share their inspiring, funny, honest, and heartbreaking stories in an effort to spark conversation, a little compassion, and change the way we think about parenting forever. After a Twitter user attacked Kim Kardashian for her weight, the reality star  silenced the commenter  with a simple response that has since gone viral. The exchange took place during an airing of  Keeping Up With the Kardashians  on Sunday night. The expecting mom, who is  reportedly due  with a baby boy this month, was tweeting throughout the episode, so when she was shown on camera eating sweets in the City of Light, she wrote : “Of course I had to fly to Paris for fashion and food!!!!”.. One Twitter user wrote back: “al u think about is food fat b–ch” [sic], and instead of getting defensive or attacking the user or even just ignoring the comment,  Kardashian responded  with one perfect word: “Yup

Manchester United Players Reportedly Complain over Louis van Gaal's Routine

Image
Manchester United ’s players are reportedly unhappy with the “supper club” routine manager Louis van Gaal adopted in the buildup to matches. Chris Wheeler  of the  Daily Mail  writes that some of the current squad are making private complaints over the matchday schedule, which sees the players take part in painstaking meetings. According the piece, under the tutelage of the Dutchman’s predecessor David Moyes and legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, the squad would usually have time to themselves, which is a luxury scarcely afforded under Van Gaal.  Wheeler elaborates on some of the grievances which are said to be damaging the United players' morale: Under Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes, the squad used to have time to themselves after dinner but now they have to attend a series of tedious meetings lasting several hours at the team hotel before gathering for a 10pm supper of cereal and toast. For home games, Van Gaal’s players usually eat a dinner of chicken and pasta a

Petition launched to sack Arsenal medical staff

Image
It's tough to be an Arsenal fan at the moment - and maybe even tougher to be a member of Arsene Wenger's squad. The Gunners' injury woes reached a nadir on Wednesday after learning that Santi Cazorla will be out for up to three months with knee ligament damage, while Alexis Sanchez is expected to miss a month with a thigh injury. Wenger now has an entire starting XI out on the sidelines , and it has all gotten a little too much for some. One particularly disgruntled fan - M S in Australia - has decided to try to avoid repeat disasters, starting a  Change.org  petition calling for Wenger to sack his  entire  medical staff. The letter to 'Wenger Lad' which accompanies the petition reads: "Every year our hopes are mighty high and so are our performances on the football pitch. Not only this, our players have the best hair. Then November comes and it all turns to s***. Injuries destroy us and our title hopes.  "Sign this petition so the medical sta

ISIS video claims beheading of Russian spy, threatens Russian people

ISIS released video Wednesday showing the beheading of a man it claims joined the terrorist group but was in fact a Russian spy, as well as a message chastising Russian President Vladimir Putin and threatening his country's citizens. As the captive kneels before him in an orange jumpsuit, his killer says in Russian that the airstrikes ordered by Putin against the Islamist extremist group has "made us understand that we are doing right thing" by continuing their fight. He then addresses the Russian people, saying, "You will not find peace in your homes. We will kill your sons ... for each son you killed here. And we will destroy your homes for each home you destroyed here."   CNN could not immediately verify the authenticity of the video, much less the ISIS claim that the man beheaded was a Russian spy. CNN also was unable to immediately obtain a comment from the Russian government about whether it believes the video shows a Russian citizen being killed.

California Massacre Suspects Dropped Off Baby

Syed Farook told his mother that he and his wife were going to a doctor's appointment on the morning of the attack. The two gunmen who killed at least 14 people at a social services centre in southern California dropped off their six-month-old baby with a relative on the morning of the attack, according to police. Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, told Farook's mother they were going to a doctor's appointment after leaving their child on Wednesday. Hours later they were shot dead following a police chase. Farook, who was born in the US, worked as an environmental health specialist for San Bernardino County, inspecting restaurants for health violations and public pools at apartment and housing complexes. On Wednesday, he attended the annual holiday gathering for employees of his department, but left after an apparent dispute, returning later with Malik dressed in assault clothing and armed with long rifles. Zuckerberg's Big Giveaway: How It Works

Image
The Facebook founder plans to give away almost all of his shares - but he's not likely to lose control of it any time soon Mark Zuckerberg has revealed he plans to give away 99% of his $45bn Facebook fortune as he announced the birth of his first child Max. Here is what it all means and how it works. So Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is giving these shares to charity, right? Wrong. Despite a number of news organisations initially claiming this, that's not the case. What's happening then? His initiative will take the form of a limited liability company (LLC) called the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, rather than a charitable trust. In the US an LLC is a type of private limited company, which does not need to be organised for profit. Mark and his wife Dr Priscilla Chan will donate their shares to the initiative. The LLC will then make private investments to support the foundation’s work.

Two Charged Over Paris Terror Attacks

Image
Two new suspects have been charged over the Paris attacks that left 130 people dead. Officials in Belgium said the pair were arrested on Sunday. One suspect, a 20-year-old Frenchman, knew Bilal Hadfi, one of the suicide bombers who blew himself up at the French national stadium, according to Flemish public television VRT. He was reportedly held for questioning at Zaventem airport, northwest of Brussels, as he was about to fly to Morocco. The second suspect, a 28-year-old Belgian, was arrested in the Brussels district of Molenbeek, where several of the gunmen lived. It means eight people are now being held over the synchronised gun and bomb attacks on 13 November - the worst attack on French soil in more than half a century. Police are still hunting for Salah Abdeslam, 30, who fled to Belgium hours after the attacks. There are unconfirmed reports he has managed to slip out of Europe and into Syria. Mad Max Fury Road Named Top Film Of The Year

Image
Mad Max: Fury Road has been named the best film of 2015 by the National Board of Review as the annual Hollywood awards season begins. George Miller's latest instalment in the franchise, started in the 1979, was a radical and unconventional curveball from one of the oldest awards bodies in movies. The post-apocalyptic movie, starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, has made $376m at the box office worldwide but it has not been seen as a likely contender for major awards such as the Oscars or Golden Globes. The science-fiction hit The Martian came away with the most wins, taking best actor for Matt Damon, best director for Ridley Scott and best adapted screenplay for Drew Goddard. 2015 has been a banner year for popular cinema. We are thrilled to be awarding George Miller and Ridley Scott, two iconic filmmakers at the top of their game, while also celebrating the next generation of talent," Board of Review president Annie Schulhof said in a statement. Real Madrid Could be sensationally KICKED OUT of the Copa del Rey

Rafael Benitez started Denis Cheryshev, who is yet to serve a suspension after receiving three yellow cards in last season's competition and scored the opening goal against Cadiz Real Madrid  could be sensationally disqualified from the Copa del Rey for fielding suspended winger  Denis Cheryshev . The Russian, who scored the opening goal of the game, received a suspension after being shown three yellow cards in last season's competition while playing for Villarreal. As Villarreal lost the semi-final tie to Barcelona in which he received his final booking, that ban has not yet been served. Cadiz president Manuel Vizcaino confirmed in a press conference after the match that the club will report Madrid to the Spanish Football Federation over the incident. Before full-time Fran Canal, the club's legal adviser, told  Canal Plus : "We will respect Real Madrid, but our fans and our members always want the best for Cadiz. Benitez at heart of humiliating Real Madrid season

Image
Things are going from bad to worse for  Real Madrid  and  Rafa Benitez  in 2015-16. Less than two weeks after their humiliating 4-0 loss at home to  Barcelona  in the Clasico, they now face elimination from the Copa del Rey for fielding a player who should have been suspended. Russian winger Denis Cheryshev spent last season on loan at Villarreal and collected three yellow cards in the cup competiton - against Getafe, Real Sociedad and Barcelona. He was therefore banned from Madrid's match at Cadiz on Wednesday, but started as Rafa rotated his pack and scored the first goal in a 3-1 win. The football was secondary as word went around of what was happening and some fans chanted: "Benitez, look at Twitter!" Cheryshev was eventually substituted at the start of the second half, Mateo Kovacic coming on in his place. Isco scored twice after that and Kike Marquez grabbed a late consolation, but all eyes were on Benitez and Madrid after the match. "We had no idea Cheryshe

Police Identify Couple Suspected of San Bernardino Mass Shooting

Police have identified two people suspected of opening fire at a California social services center Wednesday, killing 14 people, before being later shot dead by police. Syed Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, were killed in a shootout with police more than four hours after the shootings at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, police said. "It really looks like we have two shooters, and we're pretty comfortable that the two shooters that we believe went into the building are the two shooters that are deceased," San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan told reporters Wednesday night. A motive in the shooting has not been determined, Burguan said. "I just cannot express how sad I am for what happened today,"

MTN sees $5.2bn Nigerian fine reduced by a third

Image
Africa's largest mobile operator, MTN, has succeeded in its bid to reduce a $5.2bn £3.4bn) fine imposed by Nigerian authorities for failing to cut off unregistered users. Nigeria wants mobile phone companies to verify the identity of their customers. The government says it is concerned unregistered Sim cards are being used by criminal gangs. The South African company has been in talks with authorities since October when the original fine was imposed. It said on Thursday it had succeeded in reducing the fine by a third. The original fine amounted to double MTN's annual profits last year. Since it was imposed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), MTN has made a number of senior managerial changes, which included the resignation of the chief executive of its Nigerian unit, Sifiso Dabengwa. "After further engagements with the Nigerian authorities, the NCC has reduced the imposed fine," MTN said in a statement. It added the fine was now $3.4bn.

High-ranking FIFA officials detained at Zurich hotel

Two "high-ranking" Fifa officials have been arrested in dawn raids at a Swiss hotel on suspicion of accepting millions of dollars of bribes. Police swooped on the luxury Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich, where several Fifa officials were arrested in May. A two-day meeting of Fifa's executive committee is taking place in the city to vote on reforms. "Fifa became aware of the actions taken today by the US Department of Justice," football's world governing body said. "Fifa will continue to co-operate fully with the US investigation as permitted by Swiss law, as well as with the investigation being led by the Swiss Office of the Attorney General. "Fifa will have no further comment on today's developments." In May, seven Fifa officials were arrested at the same hotel at the request of a US investigation into corruption, as the o

Egypt draw with Nigeria as Algeria beat Mali

Image
Nigeria's hopes of progressing to the semi-finals of the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, the Olympic qualifying tournament, were dented by Egypt as the two sides drew 2-2 in their Group B match in M'Bour. Nigeria went into the second match of their group knowing a win would be enough to go through to the last four. At half-time they were on target for the victory, leading 2-0 thanks to two penalties from Etebo Oghenekaro who scored from the spot in the 20th minute and then again ten minutes later. But Egypt came out fighting after the break, scoring twice in five minutes to level proceedings. Ramadan Sobhi Ahmed started the comeback with a goal in the 46th minute to make it 2-1. Egypt then levelled the match thanks to a Mamdouh El Sayed strike in the 51st minute to keep their hopes of progressing alive ahead of the final round of Group B fixtures. Earlier, Algeria boosted their hope

The officials are being held in custody pending extradition, the Swiss authorities said. The US arrest requests say the officials are suspected of accepting bribes involving millions of dollars. The Swiss authorities say they will hold hearings on the requests before the end of the day. If the officials agree to extradition, the process can be agreed immediately. However, if they oppose extradition, the US will need to submit a formal extradition request within 40 days. The latest arrests were made at the luxury Baur Au Lac Hotel, scene of raids in May that saw seven FIFA officials arrested and charged,
