Morgan Schneiderlin doubt for Manchester United v CSKA Moscow

Image
Morgan Schneiderlin has emerged as a doubt for Manchester United's Champions League match against CSKA Moscow. The midfielder played the entirety of United's 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday but missed the open part of the squad's final training session before their meeting with CSKA at Old Trafford. Antonio Valencia and James Wilson, who were left out of the stalemate at Selhurst Park through injury, also missed the session at Carrington on Monday morning. Phil Jones and Memphis Depay also missed the draw in south London on Saturday and they trained separately from the rest of the squad at Carrington. Centre-back Axel Tuanzebe, 17, trained with the squad. Luke Shaw (leg) and Paddy McNair (abdomen) were also absent. A win over CSKA on Tuesday will keep United on course for qualification to the knockout stages. The two teams played out a 1-1 draw when they met a fortnight ago in the reverse fixture. United have failed to score since Anthony Martial'

Tony Cascarino says Jose Mourinho is facing the “biggest week of his career” and believes the Chelsea manager’s reign at the club will come to an end if he loses his next two matches. Chelsea were condemned to their sixth defeat in 11 Premier League matches on Saturday,  losing 3-1 to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge , heaping further pressure on Mourinho.  Mourinho has led the Blues to their worst start to a league season for 37 years, losing nine of his last 17 games in all competitions, which has left his side languishing in 15th place in the Premier League, 14 points behind current leaders Manchester City.    Stoke vs Chelsea November 7, 2015, 5:00pm

Eva Carneiro takes legal action against Jose Mourinho

Image
Jose Mourinho is to be the subject of an individual legal claim from former Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro. Legal papers will be served on Mourinho this week as part of separate but connected claims against him and against the club. It means that Mourinho will have to appear in person at an employment tribunal unless the case is settled out of court beforehand. Under employment law, an individual can be personally liable for damages if victimisation or discrimination can be proved. The claim against Mourinho will be on the basis that he was instrumental in the actions against Carneiro in having her dropped from first-team duties and effectively demoted. The latest development will heap even more pressure on the 52-year-old who has seen his side lose six out of 11 matches in the Premier League so far to leave the reigning champions in 15th spot in the table. The controversy over Carneiro goes back to August 8, the opening day of the season, when Mourinho criticised

I and my team-mates are behind Mourinho- John Mikel Obi

Image
The champions have made a horror start to the season, with  Saturday's  3-1 home defeat to Liverpool leaving them 15th on the table with 11 points from as many games but Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel insists the team remains behind under-fire manager Jose Mourinho. However, Mikel Obi, who started both the Capital One Cup loss to Stoke and the Reds reverse, is adamant Mourinho still has control of the Blues dressing room. "We are right behind the manager," Mikel said in The Guardian. "There's no doubt about it. In training we work very hard. If anyone can turn this around, we definitely think he's the one. "Last year we were champions. We won two trophies. Jose knows this club more than any other manager. He's the most successful manager in the club's history. "I definitely think that, if anything is wrong, if anything can be fixed, he is the one. There's no one out there that is going to come in and fix what's going on. &qu

I can’t believe that England is so impatient!’ – Klopp in no rush to make signings

The Reds boss says he wants time to evaluate his current squad before deciding whether to splash the cash when the transfer window reopens Liverpool  manager  Jurgen Klopp  says English football is impatient and insists he is in no rush to bring new players to Anfield. The German picked up his first victory as Reds boss on Saturday, overseeing an impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The results leaves his side eighth in the table, but Klopp is keen to work with the players he has before deciding whether to add to his squad when the transfer window reopens. “I can’t believe that England is so impatient! It is much more difficult. I have been here three weeks,” he told reporters. Everyone tells me ‘you want to buy this player, this player, this player’. “But development is to work with the players you have. It’s like if you have a problem with your wife, you don’t want to change every day!” “That is the thing, you just work and work and get better

Christian Benteke stars for Liverpool as Chelsea fail to create chances

On Saturday, Liverpool beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to intensify the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho, whose formerly dependable defensive block was cracked open by Philippe Coutinho and then crushed to bits by the aerial strength of substitute Christian Benteke. So often has a deep and solid team shape helped Mourinho win big trophies -- the league title in May being one example -- and when Ramires headed home early on, the Special One's default strategy came to the fore. But what worked last season no longer does, and Coutinho's stoppage-time strike pulled Liverpool level at half-time The Brazilian's equaliser had been set up by compatriot Roberto Firmino, who was handed a "false No. 9" role in the absence of a recognised striker in red. The £29 million summer recruit roamed freely to aid Liverpool's link-up play, which became an increasingly frequent sight as Chelsea backpedalled to guard their lead. Needing a win, Chelsea came out of their

Who could replace Jose Mourinho as manager of Chelsea?

Image
This is what it's come to. One of the greatest managers in the world is suffering an unprecedented fall, and by far enduring the worst spell of his career. Some sources around Chelsea claim that Jose Mourinho has two games to save his job, but that the one reason they haven't sacked him yet is because they don't want to end up with a replacement that doesn't meet their standards. There is doubt among the Chelsea hierarchy whether they can actually upgrade on Mourinho in the long term, although it is at this point possible that the short-term problems could get so extreme that they have no choice but to replace him. There is still no sign that the Portuguese is capable of fixing any of the side's problems right now, so it may well lead to Roman Abramovich trying to make the ultimate fix with the club. The wonder is who Chelsea will eventually go for to replace the Special One. Carlo Ancelotti His situation:  Out of work and living in Vancouver after an unre

The end of the road for Mourinho?

Chelsea's meeting with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge was billed as the game manager Jose Mourinho must not lose if he wanted to keep his job. Now, after a  3-1 defeat  that sent Chelsea towards the bottom of the Premier League after their sixth loss in 11 games and left Liverpool fans singing "you're getting sacked in the morning", the grim statistics and questions are piling up around Mourinho Not in the eyes of Mourinho himself. He was asked after the loss whether he thought this would be his final game in charge and his instant response was: "No." While all eyes turned towards Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who always has the final word on these matters, Mourinho insisted his immediate plan was to go home "to find a sad family". He then wanted to watch the Rugby World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand - before mapping out Sunday's training session for the midweek Champions League meeting with Dynamo Kiev at Stamford Br
