Christian Benteke stars for Liverpool as Chelsea fail to create chances

On Saturday, Liverpool beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge to intensify the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho, whose formerly dependable defensive block was cracked open by Philippe Coutinho and then crushed to bits by the aerial strength of substitute Christian Benteke.
So often has a deep and solid team shape helped Mourinho win big trophies -- the league title in May being one example -- and when Ramires headed home early on, the Special One's default strategy came to the fore. But what worked last season no longer does, and Coutinho's stoppage-time strike pulled Liverpool level at half-time
The Brazilian's equaliser had been set up by compatriot Roberto Firmino, who was handed a "false No. 9" role in the absence of a recognised striker in red. The £29 million summer recruit roamed freely to aid Liverpool's link-up play, which became an increasingly frequent sight as Chelsea backpedalled to guard their lead.
Needing a win, Chelsea came out of their shell after the break, but Mourinho's workmanlike line-up featured few creative players. Cesc Fabregas was benched, Diego Costa's labours yielded little and Eden Hazard offered even less before being take off after the break. Instead it was Jurgen Klopp who held the ace card: Benteke coming off the bench to use his aerial power to assist Coutinho before driving home to make it 3-1.
