Turkey Shoots Down Jet Near Syria Border
Turkish F16s have shot down a jet which
violated the country's airpsace, according to
a military official.
The official added the
nationality of the
downed aircraft is not clear at this stage, and
said the jet's pilot was warned before being shot
down.
A government official told AFP: "We are trying to
identify the nationality of the plane."
TV footage showed a plane going down in
flames in a woodland area, a long plume of
smoke trailing behind it.
The warplane went down in an area known by
Turks as "Turkmen Mountain" in northern Syria
near the Turkish border, private broadcaster
