Man 'Tries To Open Plane Door Mid-Flight'

Image
The suspect was restrained by passengers and flight crew and then arrested once the plane reached Belgrade. Cabin crew and passengers overpowered a man who allegedly threatened to open one of the plane's doors during the flight. The man was restrained as he fumbled with the controls of an emergency exit door as the Lufthansa plane flew from Frankfurt to Belgrade, the German airline said. Serbian authorities arrested the man, a Jordanian with an American passport, when the plane reached Belgrade. The crew and passengers who subdued him - which included members of a Serbian handball team - kept the man restrained for the rest of the flight. Passengers told Serbia's public broadcaster RTS that the suspect got up mid-flight, banged on the cockpit door and demanded he be allowed in. He threatened to bring down the plane and cried out that he wished to join Allah along with all the passengers, according to RTS. The incident happened as the plane was flying over Austr

US Denies Coalition Raid Hit Syrian Army Camp

Image
Syria says coalition aircraft fired at the base - describing it as "flagrant aggression" - but the US says the reports are false. The US has denied claims by Damascus that coalition warplanes bombed a Syrian army camp, killing three soldiers and wounding 13 others. President Barack Obama's envoy to the American-led alliance targeting Islamic State militants dismissed the reports as "false". Brett McGurk said on Twitter there had been no coalition airstrikes anywhere within 35 miles of the camp. "Reports of coalition involvement are false," he wrote. Syria's foreign ministry said coalition aircraft had fired nine missiles at the base in Deir al Zor province, condemning it as "flagrant aggression". Three armoured vehicles, four military cars and a weapons cache and ammunition had been destroyed in the attack, according to the Damascus regime. It would be the first known attack on the forces of  President Bashar al Assad since th

Justin Bieber Shares "Crazy" Selena Gomez Throwback Photo After Her Hot Night With Niall Horan

His shared the pic a day after the 23-year-old actress and singer was spotted packing on the PDA  with  One Direction  star  Niall Horan , 22. "Crazy throwback," Bieber wrote. The singer had also posted a  throwback photo  of the two last week. PHOTOS: 2015 Jingle Ball: Star sightings Bieber and Gomez had dated on and off for three years before they broke up in 2014 and recently  reunited  for several hours in late November, during which Bieber serenaded her at a hotel bar. They have not commented on the status of their relationship. Ferguson: Chelsea can't sack Mourinho, he's one of the best ever

Image
The former Manchester United manager believes Blues owner Roman Abramovich must have faith in the Portuguese coach, insisting he can turn the situation around. Sir Alex Ferguson says  Chelsea  owner Roman Abramovich would be "foolish" to sack  Jose Mourinho , hailing him as one of the best coaches the game has ever seen. The reigning Premier League champions have been in abysmal form this term, with Saturday's 1-0 defeat to newly-promoted Bournemouth the latest disappointing result. Mourinho's men have picked up just four points from their last six league games, leaving them sitting just two points above the relegation zone after 15 matches. Speculation over the Portuguese coach's future continues to increase, but former Manchester United manager Ferguson feels the club should stick by him.  "Abramovich has sacked so many coaches in the last 10 years that I am sure he has learned from it," the Scotsman is quoted as saying by  The Mirror.   "He h

How Van Gaal is slowly DESTROYING Man Utd's attacking traditions

Image
The club may be near the top of the table, but their limp attack risks harpooning their title hopes - but is it an issue of personnel and finishing, or overly negative tactics? Attack, attack, attack,” pleaded the  Manchester United  fans as their team, not for the first time, slumbered towards another bore draw at the weekend. The club are just three points off the top of the table yet rarely has there been such a lack of enthusiasm around Old Trafford. Resentment is growing towards Louis van Gaal, a manager who spent much of his early reign fighting fires but now cannot seem to summon even a single spark. United’s plight is embodied in the lethargic form of their out-of-sorts skipper; once a barnstorming, bulldozing powerhouse, Wayne Rooney now trudges around the pitch, trading misplaced passes with miserable touches and rarely offering any threat on goal. Yet Van Gaal seems relatively happy with his captain – he’s only missed 30 minutes of the 12 matches he has been fit and avai

Bastian Schweinsteiger faces three-match ban after Louis van Gaal criti

Manchester United midfielder could be banned for three matches for elbowing Winston Reid at the weekend, and Louis van Gaal has criticised the midfielder's performances.  est Ham game,   Bastian Schweinsteiger   lashed out at Winston Reid   as the two tussled for a set piece. It appeared that Schweinsteiger deliberately tried to elbow or force his arm at Reid, and there's a chance he could be banned for three matches as the referee did nothing about it. If he is banned for such a time, when   Ander Herrera   is out and   Morgan Schneiderlin   ias possibly injured too, then he's a clown. That's in the  Mirror . Louis van Gaal has decided, in the  Manchester Evening News , that now is a good time to have a pop at Schweinsteiger for his poor form. Let's be realistic, he's played perfectly well given the instructions he's given, along with the rest of the side, and Van Gaal needs to stop publicly criticising players because it would legitimise them saying to

Kylie Jenner ''Respects'' Jaden Smith and Sarah Snyder's Relationship as Couple Remains ''Really in Love

Image
Regardless of what you read,  Kylie Jenner   really  is happy for  Jaden Smith  and Sarah Snyder . Back when the  Keeping Up With the Kardashians  star  broke up  ever so briefly with Tyga , some  began to speculate  that the reason may have been caused by her close relationship with Smith. As it turns out, E! News has learned that the 18-year-old reality star is a huge fan of her close friend's own romantic relationship. And yes, Kylie and Jaden are really, really just friends. "Kylie knows Jaden is very into Sarah and respects it and likes her as well," a source shared with E! News exclusively. "Jaden and Kylie are still really good friends and that is it. They will always care for each other but at this point in their lives, they just want each other to be happy.  During Art Basel in Miami this weekend, both Kylie, Jaden and Sarah were able to hang out together at different events. They also met up with close friends   Hailey Baldwin ,   Justine Skye   an

Mourinho and Van Gaal look into the abyss

Steve McClaren can be pleased with his Newcastle United side. Not because they were great, because they weren’t, but because they were emphatically not garbage. Against Crystal Palace last weekend they were clearly the worst team in the Premier League. Now, they might still be, but they weren’t the worst team this weekend, so there’s at least some slight improvement. Giorginio Wijnaldum scored twice, or perhaps one and a half times given a handy deflection for the first goal, finally delivering on the promise he showed in the summer. The defence was far more impressive than it had been when conceding five at Selhurst Park, and to do so against a Liverpool side who had battered Southampton in the League Cup is something that many would expect was far beyond them in their match. They are now part of a relegation scrap, which is an improvement upon the campaign they had previously been on, that of a determined rush to relegation and transfer release clauses or relegation salary cuts.

FBI probing Sepp Blatter role in $100m bribery scandal

Image
The FBI is investigating the role played by Fifa president Sepp Blatter in a $100m (£66.2m) bribes scandal, a BBC investigation has discovered. Sports marketing company ISL paid a total of $100m to officials including former Fifa president Joao Havelange and ex-Fifa executive Ricardo Teixeira. In return, ISL was granted lucrative television and marketing rights throughout the 1990s. Blatter denied knowing about the bribes and took no action. He even allowed Teixeira to take part in the notorious vote for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.  Panorama reporter Andrew Jennings has seen a letter obtained by America's Federal Bureau of Investigation which casts doubt on Blatter's denial. The letter, apparently written by Havelange, talks about the payments he received from ISL. It says Blatter had "full knowledge of all activities" and was "always apprised" of them. The letter is included in an FBI request to the Swiss authorities for help with their inve

Actor Nicholas Smith Dies

Image
The 81-year-old was the last surviving member of the original cast and is described as a "terrific actor". Nicholas Smith, best known for playing Mr Cuthbert Rumbold in the television comedy Are You Being Served?, has died aged 81. "It is with great sadness we can confirm that our client, the actor Nicholas Smith, passed away yesterday," said a statement from his agent, Michelle Braidman Associates. It continued: "He was a lovely man and a terrific actor. He will be much missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with his family." Smith was the last surviving member of the original cast of the show which ran from 1972 until 1985. He played Mr Rumbold, the manager of fictional department store Grace Brothers. Early notable TV appearances included a stint in a 1964 Doctor Who episode titled The Dalek Invasion Of Earth. He also appeared in shows such as The Saint and The Champions.

Body Found Amid Cumbria Floods Clean Up

The Government says it will look at flood defence spending as the PM heads to Cumbria where thousands of homes are underwater. A body has been found during a search of the River Kent in Kendal as Cumbria prepares for more rain after a weekend of "unprecedented" rainfall caused by Storm Desmond. More than 40 severe flood warnings - signalling a danger to life - are in place across the flood-hit North West, with yellow rain warnings issued for later in the week. The Government has said it will look again at flood defence spending in the wake of the deluge that has left at least 2,100 homes in Cumbria and Northumberland flooded according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. One rain gauge in Cumbria recorded 341mm of rain in 24 hours over the weekend - thought to be the highest ever recorded English rainfall - much of which has poured into rivers and towns further downstream. David Cameron's spokesman said the "government should look ag

Typo Wrongly Announces President's Resignation

Image
A number of journalists are in trouble after a report about the Chinese president delivering a speech mixed up similar words Four journalists have been suspended after a typo wrongly announced the "resignation" of China's president. Xi Jinping had been at a China-Africa summit in Johannesburg when the China News Service published a report quoting him as saying in his "resignation" that China and Africa had a shared destiny in their histories. Writers at the state-owned news agency had mixed up the Mandarin words for "speech" (zhi ci) and "resignation" (ci zhi). So, instead of simply delivering a speech, China's president was "resigning". A number of other news outlets used the story - including the mistake - before the agency was able to issue a correction. According to the South China Morning Post, a number of CNS journalists have left their jobs over the error, including the agency's South Africa bureau chief

Obama Warns Of 'New Phase' Of Terror Threat

Image
The President says the husband-and-wife attackers in the San Bernardino shooting "had gone down the dark path of radicalisation. Barack Obama has warned Americans of a "new phase" of terror threats - days after the deadly shootings in San Bernardino. In a rare address from the Oval Office, he confirmed the FBI was still gathering information about the attacks in California which left 14 people dead and 21 wounded. But he said there was no evidence that the killers had been directed by terror groups overseas. Mr Obama explained how the threat that terrorism posed to the US had changed from the "multi-faceted" attacks of 9/11, to simpler methods such as mass shootings. "We will prevail by being strong and smart," he told the nation. He said the US-born couple involved in the San Bernardino massacre, Syed Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, "had gone down the dark path of radicalisation, embracing a perverted interpretation of Islam tha
