Manchester United: Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini Urged to Leave

Former Manchester United Premier League title winner Paul Ince believes midfielders Ander Herrera and  Marouane Fellaini must leave Old Trafford. Ince thinks the current United regime is wasting the talents of both players. Speaking to 888poker.com (h/t  Metro 's George Bellshaw), Ince stated how he feels Herrera is not suited to the rough and tumble of England's top flight: " I thought it was a lot of money and when I first saw him he was small and looked quite weak."  Instead, Ince believes Herrera's qualities belong in Spanish football:  "I’m not sure he’s going to be a regular in a Louis Van Gaal side and although he’s a very good player he’s just more suited to Spain.  I  watched him play in Spain and he suits the Spanish game but I don’t think he suits Manchester United." That's a relevant thought considering La Liga giants Barcelona are currently linked with acquiring the Basque playmaker, according to Spanish source  Don Balon   (h/t...

Messi's injury makes Neymar deserved Ballon d'Or winner

Puskas Award nominee  Wendell Lira  believes  Neymar  deserves to win the Ballon d'Or due to Lionel Messi  being sidelined with a knee injury. Messi returned to the Barcelona starting XI on November 24 for the Champions League tie against Roma after spending two months on the sidelines. And Lira, the Vila Nova striker who is competing with Alessandro Florenzi and Messi for the goal of the year prize, argues that compatriot Neymar has been the world's top player over the course of 2015 as a whole.  "Neymar," the 26-year-old told  Goal  when asked who deserves the Ballon d'Or. "Messi was injured and Cristiano Ronaldo is not in his best moment." Lira has links to Barcelona's Brazilian contingent through his childhood friend Douglas, whom he lauded for his modest attitude and humble beginnings. "Douglas is my friend since we were kids," he explained. "I've known him since I was 10, in a moment in which he was very, very poor and very...

Madrid have only themselves to blame for Copa catastrophe - Perez

Florentino Perez was adamant.  Real Madrid  have done nothing wrong. He did not know  Denis Cheryshev  was suspended - and therefore ineligible - to face Cadiz in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night. That was the president's defence - and he may yet get away with it. Cheryshev started in the cup clash at the Ramon Carranza and opened the scoring after just three minutes, but he was substituted at the start of the second half after it emerged that he had not been entitled to play, having picked up three yellow cards in the Copa last season when on loan at Villarreal. And although Rafa Benitez spoke after the game of taking him off "in an act of good faith", Cadiz confirmed they will make an official complaint and Madrid are facing elimination from the Copa del Rey after playing only one game in the competition in 2015-16. So how is it possible that Real Madrid - "the biggest club in the world", according to Perez - did not know when others did?  Florentino faced...

San Bernardino shooting: Policeman speaks of carnage at scene

Image
One of the first police officers to respond to deadly shootings at a social service centre in California has spoken of scenes of "unspeakable" carnage. Lt Mike Madden said he and officers who arrived later saw dead bodies and had to pass injured people as they tried to "engage the shooters" on Wednesday. Officials say a husband and wife shot dead 14 people and wounded 21 in the city of San Bernardino. Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, were killed in a shootout. Bomb equipment, weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition were later found in the attackers' home.  The authorities have still not found a motive for the attack. Hundreds of people attended a candlelit vigil at the scene of the shooting, the Inland Regional Center social services agency. "It was unspeakable, the carnage that we were seeing," Lt Madden told a news conference. "The number of people who were injured and unfortunately already dead and the pure...

Labour Increases Share Of The Vote In Oldham

Image
Labour has seen off the challenge from UKIP to win the Oldham West and Royton by-election with a majority of more than 10,000. The contest was Jeremy Corbyn's first electoral test since he became Labour leader and came after a torrid week in which  the party was split over airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria. Turnout was higher than expected at just over 40%, and Labour's success appears to have been secured with an effective postal vote operation. Its candidate Jim McMahon polled 17,209 votes, with UKIP'S John Bickley trailing in second on 6,487, a majority of 10,722. Labour's share of the vote increased to 62.11% and there was a 2.27% swing from UKIP to Labour. He claimed to have "evidence from an impeccable source that today's postal voting was bent". "As a veteran of over 30 by-elections I have never seen such a perverse result. Serious questions need to be asked," he tweeted. But Mr Corbyn said the result was a "vote ...
